The Beatles Remastered Stereo Box Set Review, Should Beatles Fans Buy It?

Lots of Beatles fans own all of The Beatles albums on CD already and are probably thinking long and hard over whether or not it’s really worth buying all of their albums on CD again because they’ve been remastered and repackaged.

The Beatles In Mono Box Set’s appeal is easy to see. The mono mixes in that box are making their very first appearance on CD and considering that the mono mixes are the ones the band themselves worked so hard on, it seems obvious that every real Beatles fan will want a copy.

Sound quality is the key with The Beatles in Stereo set. While the mixes aren’t new, sometimes they sound so much more clear that they might as well be.

One way to explain this improvement in sound quality to someone who has the old Beatles CDs and doesn’t hear anything wrong with them is to compare it to going from DVD to Blu-Ray when watching a movie. DVD is OK, but Blu-Ray looks fantastic! This is the best music of all time, don’t you think it deserves to be heard in all of it’s true glory?

But to me I think the difference is even more than that of jumping up to Blu-Ray video because with music the increased clarity allows me to hear parts of the music that I never heard before.

Hearing these newly remastered Beatles CDs is like hearing them for the first time. Yes, the improvements in warmth & clarity are that big!

The years of waiting has really paid off. They may have taken a long time to do these remasters but when they finally did do them, they did them right.

The most obvious improvement in the sound is with the bass and the drums. With the old CDs the bass and drums were too often buried in the mix. Not anymore. Now they propel the songs forward as they were intended to.

I was worried that they would lose the original ambiance and warmth of the music in an attempt to “modernize” the music. I was also worried that they would take part in the horrible “loudness wars” that are ruining the sound quality of most modern music. It turns out I had nothing to be worried about. These newly remastered stereo mixes sound absolutely fantastic.
