Protect Your LED TV Screen
So you’ve invested in a fantastic new LED TV screen and have started watching it with the family – but after a close call with a Nintendo Wii controller you’re worried the kids might damage the screen with anything from crayons, sticky fingers and toys.
Cracked tv screens are very difficult to repair and in the majority of cases will require replacing completely, which can cost almost as much as the tv itself. Warranties from retailers often don’t cover screen damage, leaving the consumer seriously at risk in the event of accidental damage.
So how do you prevent your display from being damaged? The answer is a screen protector, and there’s a great range now available.
Screen protectors are used in a wide range of applications, from personal to business to industrial, including protecting tv’s on workshop floors, airport lounges, hospitals and even the military.
The screens are simple and lightweight pieces of clear acrylic plastic that sits on top of your display and hangs over the screen, protecting it from impacts. They don’t require assembly and secure using straps round the back of the screen. Many also include felt pads to prevent the protector from damaging the front of the tv and rubber feet to keep it in place.
Other more advanced features of screen protectors include UV light filters, with some claiming to block 92% of the harmful ultra violet light in the UVA/UVB spectrum emitted from plasmas and LCD televisions. Others offer very high grade optical plastic to ensure clear, sharp and vivid images and utilise a non-reflective layer to prevent glare.
The protectors tend to pick up less grease and grime than the tv itself so require less cleaning. They’re also easier to clean as they can be pressed down and will not be damaged by cleaning fluids.
However, screen protectors are known to reduce the brightness of a tv by up to 5%, but that can easily be remedied with a simple adjustment of the screen brightness through the tv’s built in settings.
For the average consumer the screens are available online from a range of international retailers for tv’s from 19 inches all the way up to 55 inches. They’re also priced very competitively when compared to the cost of replacing the whole screen, starting at just $60.
For the business consumer, complete screen enclosures are available for screens up to 65 inches, where the entire television is encased in strong aluminium extrusion and acrylic. The enclosures are available in two colours; a black anodized frame with black matte acrylic, or a silver anodized frame with a frosted acrylic.
The enclosures also feature optional sound enhancement, air vents and fans to ensure proper cooling, and tamper proof screws.
It’s important to research your protector before buying to ensure you choose one that you’re your tv’s make and model, meets your needs and doesn’t blow your budget. Think of a screen protector as an investment for the future – make the right choice and you’ll be enjoying your purchase for years to come.
