The Peacemaker: A train wreck, with a train loaded with nuclear weapons, in Russia leaves what appears to be a nuclear disaster in its wake. Nuclear expert Dr. Julia Kelly thinks otherwise. She is convinced the explosion was staged, and the nuclear weapons have fallen into dangerous hands. Colonel Devoe agrees, and the two must uncover the conspiracy that has lead to nuclear weapons falling into the wrong hands.
Michael Collins: Politically charged tale of Irish insurgent leader Collins (Neeson), who with charm, guts, and idealistic fervor leads the quarrel contrary to British rule in the adolescents and ’20s. Dynamic and commanding first half gives way to more abstinent and unavoidable summarization, in which Collins is made to become an ambassador and compromiser, sowing the kernels of his own downfall. Neeson is phenomenal and works with a first-rate cast in this convincing, believable, and vicious period piece, beautifully filmed by Chris Menges. Cast includes Liam Neeson, Aidan Quinn, Julia Roberts, Stephen Rea, Alan Rickman, Ian Hart, Brendan Gleeson, and Charles Dance. (132 minutes, 1996)
Point Break: Johnny Utah, a rookie FBI agent, goes undercover, as a surfer, to infiltrate a suspicious group of surfers that might be responsible for a string of bank heists. He is taken in by the group, and learns the life of a surfer. When it’s time will Johnny Utah be able to take these criminals down.
Sine: The moving, true story, of Australian pianist David Helfgott. A child prodigy on the piano, he grows up in an abusive situation. Finally breaking away from his father he travels over seas to study. Eventually, he suffers a total breakdown. He returns to Australia, winding up in a mental institution. Somehow, many years later he is released from the institution. In final completion, he makes his way all the way back to playing in the concert halls.
Night of the Comet: Planet comes to an end, leaving only a few California valley gals behind! Clever satire, with brainy and sporadically chilling minutes, however plays all its cards too eventually. Cast includes Catherine Mary Stewart, Kelli Maroney, Robert Beltran, Geoffrey Lewis, Mary Woronov, Sharon Farrell, and Michael Bowen. (94 minutes, 1984)
Act of Love: A war time romance develops between an American soldier and a young Parisian woman whjo is down on her luck. Cast includes Kirk Douglas, Dany Robin, Robert Strauss, Gabrielle Dorziat, Serge Reggiani, and Brigitte Bardot. (1959 romance directed byAnatole Litvak)
